BEGINNINGS
In 1994 Carl Hansel and Jim Slater discussed the possibility of organizing a chorus. A meeting of interested people was arranged and six singers decided they could do it. The goal of the new chorus would be "Neighbors Entertaining Neighbors." The first performance was the 1994 Christmas Trim-a-Tree party where 12 members sang Christmas Carols. |
HISTORY
The chorus grew over the years with 5 different conductors. At one time it had both Christmas and Spring concerts with 3 Spring performances. In 2005 a history of the Chorus was documented with photographs, newspaper articles and playbills. It disbanded in 2017 prior to the onset of Covid. RESTART In 2022, Joyce Russel posted interest in the Google Group to start the Chorus up again. Ed Huetteman, past treasurer of the Chorus posted information about the Chorus. David Muir, a new resident of Herons Glen, saw the Google posts and expressed interest in helping restart a smaller singing group. Sue Atkin, Ed Huetteman, and David Muir organized the start of the smaller chorus. GROWTH Claudie Tweedle, past accompanist and past director of the chorus accepted the role of accompanist for the smaller singing group. There was no music, no consistent room, no consistent time and no portable keyboard. A portable keyboard was purchased and later funded by chorus members. SUCCESSES The first rehearsal was in Activities Room A and over 30 people showed up. Initially, the intent was to do a small concert of about 10 pieces. Thanks to incredible enthusiasm of Chorus members, Wendy Shea, Karen Jessop, Bill Cashell, Paul Chipman, Steve Dahlstrom, Rob Dentel, Bob Hanford, Paul Koenig, Bob LeMere, and Jayne Schwarz, the small concert became a standing room only performance. What a wonderful engaged audience who gave a standing ovation. |
